Hello and welcome to my first blog. I haven't really gotten around to blogging much and the root site www.aspergersgirl.com is under construction.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and irrational fears

I developed OCD when I was abouy 11 or 12. I have no idea where it came from, it just hot me in the face one day like a bucket of cold water. It made things like practicing mouth to mouth on a dummy and sharing snorkels hell. Irrational fear of germs. What was really hard about it was the fact no-one in my family understood. I "coughed" to "try and get the germs i brethed in" back out (irrational), and got yelled at for doing it.

OCD is like living in a restricted cage. No way out, takes a lot of mind power to help fix it. Although I have overcome an irrational fear of germs, my OCD has changed form into irrational fears abuot other things.

The best thing for children to do if they experience this is to ask for help from their parents. It's critical that they learn to understand. Over the years I have learned to "trick my mind" with things suck as checking doors are locked 5 times in a row. If the need to do that can be implanted into ones head, then so can a possible incodent involving the OCD that never really happened.

Allow me to explain

I check the door 5 times.
I tell myself (even though it's obviously not going to happen) that If I check the door more than once again, it will fall off and shatter. I don't know why this worked for me, but it gave my mind and excuse not to do what my OCD said.

Funny thing, the human mind. I still have a long way to go.
